Or maybe: the Moscow church serves Putin as a lonely island of Orthodoxy. In 2018, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine received the status of autonomy, recognized by the Patriarch of Constantinople. Thus, it officially separated from the Moscow Patriarchate in response to the invasion of Russian separatists in the Crimea and the eastern territories of Ukraine. Currently, the Patriarch of Moscow supports Russia in the war against Ukraine and is alone in this in the entire Orthodox world. Did Putin just lead to the schism of the eastern church. Everything indicates that the Russian Orthodox Church has begun to pursue political, not religious, goals and is losing the status of a denomination in favor of a national church. This could lead to a real crisis of Christians in Russia. The proposed suspension of braoni for Christmas in Ukraine turned out to be a bluff. The whole stoppage of operations was aimed at the possibility of regrouping Russian forces, not releasing them from the front for the holiday celebrations. Considering the behavior of the Moscow Church, this is no longer surprising.
